What is plant-based kefir?

Kefir is a cultured drink: live cultures ferment a base liquid, thickening it and leaving behind the tangy, slightly effervescent character kefir is known for. Traditionally that base is cow's milk. Ours isn't.

We culture almond milk and coconut milk instead, so the result is entirely dairy-free — the same live cultures and the same tang, without the lactose. It suits anyone eating vegan, anyone lactose-intolerant, and anyone who simply prefers a lighter drink.

The two varieties

Almond Milk Kefir

Almond Milk Kefir

Nutty and clean, with a gentle sourness. The lighter of the two — closest in body to a traditional dairy kefir, so it's the easier switch if you're coming off the classic.

Coconut Milk Kefir

Coconut Milk Kefir

Richer and creamier, with the coconut coming through behind the tang. The more indulgent of the pair — good on its own, and it holds up well blended into smoothies.

Why drink it

Live cultures

Fermentation leaves live cultures in the bottle — the reason people drink kefir in the first place.

Fully dairy-free

No milk, no lactose. Vegan-friendly, and an option if dairy doesn't agree with you.

Made in Kenya

Cultured in small batches here, not shipped in — which is why it's made to order rather than sitting on a shelf.

Ordering it

Cultured to order — allow 24 hours

We start your bottles once you order, so plant-based kefir needs about a day before dispatch or collection. Because an order is delivered in one go, that wait applies to everything in the same basket — the checkout will tell you before you commit, and let you drop the plant-based items if you'd rather not wait.

1 Litre bottles · KES 750 · no minimum
